What makes Femular and Femular Forte simply different?
Femular and Femular Forte have been shown to relieve the symptoms of menopause from as early as 1 month with significant relief shown at 3 months and continued improvement over 9 months.2-4 We take care to use a specific extract of Actaea racemosa (Black cohosh) known as Ze 450 to help deliver a consistently high quality medicine that is the same medicine proven in clinical trials to provide relief during all stages of menopause.
Medicines with naturally sourced active ingredients can vary considerably depending on the species of plant chosen, the way it is grown and harvested, the extraction and the production processes. Femular (1 tablet low dose) is suitable for mild to moderate symptoms of menopause while Femular Forte (1 tablet dose) or Femular (2 tablet high dose) is more suitable for those who have moderate to severe menopausal symptoms. How does Femular work? Is it oestrogenic?
It is not fully understood how the Femular/Femular Forte Ze 450 extract of Actaea racemosa works, however evidence suggests that it may work on the neuroendocrine function. Several studies suggest that it may act on receptors in the brain which play a role in central nervous system processes that help govern body temperature (thermoregulation), and also feelings of stress, nervousness and mild anxiety.
The activity of Actaea racemosa in relation to oestrogen has also been investigated and the evidence suggests Femular is likely to be non-oestrogenic.6,8
The research in this area suggests that Actaea racemosa may work instead as a selective oestrogen receptor modulator (SERM) helping to modulate and mimic oestrogen and is not likely to have a direct oestrogenic effect.
